What frustrates bus riders?

More than 200,000 people per day ride a bus in Miami-Dade, easily making it the busiest arm of the county's mass-transit system. However, not all passengers enjoy the ride. Many have voiced their concerns to the county by submitting complaints to the transit department. The Miami Herald requested 19 months' worth of complaints to see what frustrates current bus riders. This is part of the Herald's Bus Gripes database

What the commuters said

The Miami Herald sorted bus feedback entries into 12 categories and compared them with results from the entire system. It then assigned routes a star rating for each category. The number of stars – one being the worst and three being the best – represents the route's complaint rate compared with other routes in that category. Submissions are published as recorded by the county.

Mr. Ronald Pope is a wheelchair passenger who seems to be having a huge problem with the service that the 301 (Dade- Monroe Express) contracted bus provides to the residents and passengers in the keys/taveriner area. He calls the dispatcher with the america's transportation to make them aware that he will be taking the bus so that they can make sure there is a wheelchair lift working on the bus and it still does not either stop for him or the operator does not know how to use the lift on the bus. It takes 5 hours for a 1 hour trip. He is very upset and will be contacting the ADA unit inreference to ths matter

Caller stated that when she and her male companion boarded the Dade-Monroe Express at Marathon this morning at 8:05 am she scanned her Golden Passport SSB - she is physically disabled - it beeped once indicating it was OK. Caller had just renewed it last month and used it up to last night. Caller stated that her male companion also scanned his card and it worked. Caller stated that after they had gone to their seats the OP called them back and told them they had to scan their cards again as he did not see them doing so. The meter box then stated to pass back the card. The OP then questioned them - stating that " You people always want to ride for free. " The male PAX stated that his "Dammed" card is already pre-paid. The OP then pulled the bus over to call the Police. OP is Hispanic male and the PAXS are both Black.

We are having serious problems because this route is almost always pack. especially rush hours (6 am to 8 am), and when we are trying come back our houses the bus is pack and sometimes nobody pick up us (3 pm to 5 pm). This is my experience. I appreciate any help. Thank you

PAX CLAIMS THAT PERHAPS THE 3:40 PM WAS FILLED TO CAPACITY BUT NOT THE 4:15 PM OR 4:45 PM WHICH FAILED TO PICK HIM UP. PAX IS VERY UPSET AND AGGRAVATED CLAIMING THIS HAPPENS VERY OFTEN AND WILL NOW HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 6:50 PM. PAX WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND THAT THE SERVICE IMPROVES BY ADDING MORE BUSES AT THIS TIME.

Caller stated the Dade/Monroe EXP to Marathon that comes by at 7:00 am at MM 81 - in front of Chica Lodge did not stop for him though he waved at the bus - Caller stated that the OP waved him off and kept going. Caller stated that he could see that the bus was not full. Caller stated that he has to get all the way to Key West and the next bus isn't until midday which makes him lose more than half a day from work and possibly getting fired.

Pax claims all this maneuver took 30 minutes delay. Pax also added that the A/C on this bus does not work.
